To Infinity Bonsai, and Beyond!

All revved up to start my journey today, I rolled up my sleeves and prepared to dive into the city that I love, Oakland. First stop: gorgeous (and only recently discovered) hidden oasis in my neighborhood, Lake Park. I have HUGE ideas about turning this into a premier, Bay Area wedding destination that will help raise much needed funds for Parks and Recreation. I spent hours last night pouring over wedding data and brainstorming ideas that would incorporate local vendors in my neighborhood and help stimulate sales. An outline for a business plan (or perhaps a grant?) in mind, I marched towards the park. So excited, I blurted out to the first person who acknowledged me that I was there to volunteer! (Read: Take over Oakland.) Five minutes later (and I still don't know how this happened) I somehow became the Wednesday docent for the Bonsai Garden. Apparently, not even knowing that bonsai was the art of sculpting miniature trees and not a plant, and that it comes in other kinds other than just...Bonsai...did not disqualify me from this nobel position. Not exactly grabbing the bull by the horns like I had hoped, but I am not deterred. I will help fix Oakland one miniature, painstakingly shaped tree at a time.
